That said structural issues that led to this are present in not only FIFA, but the other confederations too, including UEFA. The one member, one vote fallacy that it is democratic and equitable and the blind cash handouts in equal amounts no matter of needs. Infantino in a way exposes entire system

If not one member/one vote - what would be the alternative? Some sort of qualified majority voting? Lots of interanational sporting federations have similar dynamics and usually it emerges from a domination of one traditional confederation (normally Europe).

Football might be less popular in Sri Lanka than any other country in the world, this is exactly the wrong kind of federation to be signalling support for Infantino. It’s run out of a one room office surrounded by cricket and rugby fields.

The note from Mattias Grafstrom while not as emphatic or as damming as the one by COO Kevin Lamour clearly attempts to draw a line between the administration and Infantino. Even if he survives, it is truly nuts that he can preside over an administration that has completely lost faith in him.

Taken together, this is a clear separation between Infantino’s presidential office and the rank and file that run FIFA. How dysfunctional will the organisation be if he somehow manages to cling on? The top cadre of management seem to have lost faith in the man who they answer to.

In addition to ‘blind cash’ members can also apply for additional FIFA funds for specific projects. But that means they are hesitant to criticise FIFA leadership since they (rightly?) assume it will impair their chances of getting approval. It is FIFA’s way of rewarding the ‘good’ guys.
