We asked how their choice of the size of tree, species and distance from the river differed between one site where beavers were recent occupants (River Otter, Devon) and one site where they had lived for centauries (River Gjov, Norway)

Beavers were selective in the size and species of trees that they felled. However, the beavers differed between sites in the size/distance to river and relationships whether their felling was spatially clustered or more randomly distributed.

These differences between the two sites may reflect different optimal foraging strategies driven by different lengths of occupation by beavers in the vicinity, perhaps due to changed forage availability

It's been fun working on this fascinating, important and perhaps controversial species, and we have a few more questions up our sleeves! (PS: PEC will not be renamed "The Cocks and Beaver Group"😳)
