I don’t like the knee jerk “every homophobe is closeted & self-loathing” reaction, because 1) some people are, in fact, simply hateful and you don’t need to rationalize it, and 2) it often just turns into weird homophobic behavior aimed at the asshole and isn’t focused on any demonstrated hypocrisy.
