Dragon Quest Monsters - Caravan Heart starts today with a potentially epic journey through the Cave to Rendarak / Rhone. The original in Dragon Quest 2 was infamous for being a long slog with lots of trap floors, repeating loopback levels, and difficult mobs. Will see how this goes.

Can report very challenging monsters. Especially these darn Flames that love to use violent flames on the entire party for 70HP damage to all. Can't say I like the Bubble King either much with his numbing / sleep attacks.

Finally got enough mini medals to get the hearts needed to make a Metal Babble of my own. He better not just run away.

Back at it here after a break and I am finding a LOT of similarity between this cave and it's counterpart in Dragon Quest 2. It helps if you for some strange reason are one of the two weird people in the world that have memorized that cave. 😜

I had to check and sure enough they left this pitfall in. In Dragon Quest 2 NES/SNES this hole was the only way to find the powerful and hidden Thunderbolt Blade - the Prince of Midenhall's most powerful weapon. Here you only get a Strange Nut, sadly (+5 Max MP).

As far as I know the only indication in the NES/SNES version of Dragon Quest 2 that the Thunderbolt Blade (then Thunder Sword) even existed is this guy. He doesn't tell you or even hint where it is though. You can talk to him in the post game and he has something else to say if you find it,

Also of interest (to me anyway 😅) the maps included with Dragon Quest 2 do not include the pitfall required to access the Thunderbolt Blade. I've marked where the pitfall should be in green.

Oh and this is neat. The official Dragon Quest 2 Japanese Guide DOES show the required drop to get this weapon.
