Since every facet of the post war deal that created a middle class of men is being gutted and the only path forward is compete for education of decreasing value, men are understandably freaking out.

Many of them voted for Trump or Brexit, in a desperate bid to see if democracy even worked at all. Many of them quietly kill themselves with drugs. Some of them chose to direct their energy somewhere they imagine more productive, like cheering for elon space optimism, or supporting DSA socialism.

You can get into the minutia of why one is better than the other, what is productive or problematic, but that, like you said earlier, is the trees instead of the forest. Vast swaths of voters behave in ways we don't have control over. If one wants to sort sinners from saints, go into the church.

Acknowledging resentments and directing them into progressive politics is all we can do. I would prefer someone better then Platner. When he ran originally there were too few candidates. Since then, many more socialists have won in sweeps and we don't need to be desperate for candidates anymore.
