Are you not concerned the distinction between your definition and his definition will prove academic? I am 100% against this stuff and there’s so much despicable crap in those essays… But I am getting v demoralised by the framing of this purely as a grift. The tech is doing something terrifying.

I’d love to be proved wrong. But I know a little about the tech and (for my sins) my day job involves these things a lot of the time. And my personal assessment is they are dangerous as all hell and I don’t *see* where they plateau. Every time someone identifies a gap, six months later and…

In a moral world we’d never even be contemplating building these things. In a rational world we‘d never fund them because there’d be a sensible carbon price preventing them. But we don’t live either of those places right now so what do we do?

Well if you say so, he’s not been someone I’ve watched. I’m kinda amazed he got so much credit for saying his spiel as late as 2024: I’m a million miles from being in either SF or AI (because, ew) and most of his ideas struck me as obviously the old-news *game plan* of the bros in 2023.
