If MLS wants to capture fans and some of the (admittedly imagined) mystique of European soccer, it should institute a partial fan ownership (say 10%) structure. It would obviously be a difficult sell to “investor-operators” but I’d argue 90% ownership of a partially fan-owned team is more valuable.
