I think Ohio Dems are actively trying this anti-trans stuff to see if it works. A month ago, I DMed @connieschultz.bsky.social to ask about her husband (Sherrod Brown)'s anti-trans positions in 2024. I figured she'd offer some words of encouragement or whatever, but she didn't even bother replying.

I wasn't aware of his turn to transphobia, but I've had a strange feeling about Sherrod Brown for years. His insistence on the "dignity of work" can also be read as saying one lacks dignity if one cannot work. I guess this confirms my suspicions. No one's bigoted in only one way.

Didn’t work for Colin Allred. Dems treat trans rights like they used to treat abortion. And they’ll keep pretending when no one’s listening to support equality until it’s completely outlawed and then fundraise off it.

Parker, I did what I do whenever someone tries to go through me to reach my husband. I shared your message with him.

Neither of you care about trans people at all. You could have responded with "of course he supports trans people! he views what he did in 2024 as a mistake and won't make it again." But neither of you care. You can reply to me privately or I can air this out publicly, it's your choice.

(I wouldn't have posted that screenshot had she actually replied, obviously, but since it's just text that I sent her way that got ignored, I figure it's fair game.)

On top of this, I also feel like Ohio is a place where it *can* work. Not in the way they expect, (I think people are tired of the GOP, and Acton doesn't even *need* to try any trans hostility) but it may well get them the results they seek.

Seems like it will cause big problems for them down the line. Progressive challengers are winning all over the country, our politics are heavily nationalized, and what might be acceptable now in a great year for Dems isn't guaranteed to fly in five or ten years' time.

The obvious issue is that anyone who throws trans people to the wolves is going to be terrible on any number of other issues. What happens when OH Dems see good things happening in other states under actual progressives while they're stuck with GOP-lite?
