This trade almost solidifies a lockout. It would be a different spin if Skubal was traded to the Brewer or Rays. Small market teams getting reigning 2 time Cy Young winner would be good for baseball. Dodgers, Yankees, or Red Sox getting same player is bad for baseball.

Looms? MLB wants the one thing the MLBPA has said they'll neverevereverever accept in a million years. Therefore, there won't be a 2027 season. And don't count on a 2028 season.

There's not really much chance of that happening. That said, should the lockout cancel the entire 2027 season, it wouldn't surprise me at all if MLB owners start to crash out due to lack of revenue, though MLB would likely try to keep any such teams afloat through loans or taking them over.

This is why MLB has built a "war chest" (IIRC, about USD$2-3bn) to help teams over the course of their lockout. The theory is that they'll starve the MLBPA into submission, but there's more than one team that for whom the loss of a season's revenues could be devastating, and they'd starve as well.

Zero salary cap, the players should make as much bank as they can get. The other 3 major sports in the USA has a salary cap.. and the only ones that benefit is... the owners. Fans don't get cheaper tickets, players don't get paid.. The Mets spent their $$, and they suck.. it's not just money
