The visibility of cropmarks depends on a subtle combination of weather (moisture levels) & the crop type (as well as other variables). So if a farmer plants potatoes, forget it. Or if it rains a lot in May, it’s probably not going to happen. And deep ploughing will destroy the buried archaeology.
