Given what the author wrote in that article, about changes to Cambridge city centre, they've never been here. So biased.

I'm only just getting to the end of July's print edition! Such a lot of detail. I particularly liked @nafeez.bsky.social piece on Tony Blair. Excellent . IMO Blair is the ex Prime Minister who can't let go, and is so out of date.

Well, it started with "protecting" free speech at university, i.e. far-right propaganda enablement. Once the Tories protected far-right extremism on campus it shouldn't be surprising that the next step is for the far-right to start radicalising students.

I don't understand. Orr is the most important character in Catch 22. He's the ontological solution to Yossarian's existential problem. Oh, that Orr, the one whose mendacity makes him Trump's bedfellow.

The practical solution

That's subsumed within the ontological disposition. Think of it as being. Being is doing. There are lots of practical people without being, but no ontological undertaking without doing. It is specifically such since Orr heads to Sweden from the Med, in a dinghy. Why does Yoss. go somewhere lesser?

Y realises late in the book that Orr was not crazy, but was rather perfecting an escape plan. The book ends with Y running away from the base, while everyone tells him to stop. We don't know where he is headed. He finally realised that he was free all along; that the chains were in his mind.

Peter, yes. But your yes is akin to 'Love is a chemical movement of impulses via nerves to brain.' Mechanistic. Why Prometheus/Dostoyevsky foreshadowed? Why when claim for practicality given ALL Orr's planning is to crash + row to Sweden from the Med in a dinghy? That is not practical. Orr could 1/-

fly closer. It is a metaphor for reaching self, i.e. ontological self is practical doing/being. Your argument of practicality is for creating an ontological result not a mechanistic one. Orr's practicality is practical thought of self, within; differing from Milo's practicality of external gain. 2/-

Chains were in his mind, yes. 'Your' comprehension of that is mechanistic - escape from war => existential issue => resolved via ontological practicum. Y escapes bc of some realisation of what Orr IS. Y escapes like Orr but not to Sweden, again metaphor. Y hasn't ontological dvlpmnt but is on path.
