Fairbanks never got to 30 because his body kept him from it. When he wasn't on the IL, he was the primary guy. I said all off-season they'd settle on a guy, but I only gave Baker a 10% chance of being that guy. Believed in him *so* much, I took him as a reserve in AL LABR

I think the Rays approach to bullpen is more opportunistic than it is ideological, they are not "pro" or "anti" designated closer, they go with whatever approach makes sense given who is available for which roles. And just the other day Baker pitched the 8th to face the heart of the opposing order.
