Long ago, Vagrancy laws in the USA allowed the police to detain people for not being employed, sleeping outdoors, and so on. They mostly affected black people, who were just coming off the effects of slave patrollers limiting their freedom of movement.
Southern New Hampshire DSAInstead of supporting our unhoused neighbors with warming stations and emergency resources, the Alderman are empowering the police state which terrorizes the most vulnerable. This camping ban ordinance offers no path to safety, no housing, no meaningful alternatives. Only punishment.
