Breeding Bird Surveys (BBS)

(1/) The weird and wonderful Nightjar has increased by 20% across the UK. As this species is mainly active at dawn and dusk, it is occasionally recorded on BBS squares, mainly in southern England. @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspbscience.bsky.social #Ornithology #CitizenScience

(2/) However, it is not currently recorded on enough squares to produce a trend, and BBS is not the most suitable survey for this species anyway. Why not take a listen to this bird ‘churring’ whilst reading more about the Heathland Birds Survey?!: www.bto.org/our-work/new...
