Interesting — thanks for posting. I didn’t see him mention al-Andalus in the text as a goal and I would rather doubt that was the intent, if indeed the text is authentically Carolingian. I confess I’m skeptical.

It is a text that raises more questions than answers, I agree.

If Carolingian, I’d think the period of Charles the Bald would be more likely. But the fact there is a good question about a 16th century date as well raises more questions. And Charles V was certainly preoccupied with Muslims in the shape of the Turks besieging Vienna!

Absolutely! But Dorfbauer does consider this possibility quite thoroughly, and in the end discounts it - but yes, there's room for debate.
