Given how stable Eastmancolor stocks weren't readily in use until the late 70s and early 80s, is there any way to recover what may be left of the cyan and yellow on older strips?

Good question! I defer to @uncommonephemera.org on that. I used to work at the film and photography archive at UT Austin, and I believe there are archivists doing amazing things to rescue deteriorating Eastmancolor...maybe in Rochester? This was a while ago

Sometimes, depending on the level of fade. It's a physical thing. The cyan and yellow dyes fade before magenta. If they're just lightly faded, color grading can restore some of it. If they're fully faded, no. That's why it wasn't wise to leave these things until the 2020s, and why I need help.

And Eastmancolor stock was not more "stable" in the 70s/80s. It was still available as a low-cost option at the customer's own risk, used for ephemeral things with a short use life. Kodak introduced "Low-Fade Positive Print" (LPP) in the 70s and smart companies switched to it.

I see! That's where I got confused then. It would also explain the novelty slide sets I see in antique stores all the time that are faded regardless of date

Also, I worked on an archival project some 10 years ago restoring color left in improperly stabilized Ektachrome slides from the 1950s. It was with some success. I know it's a different film stock, but I'd love to give it a try if you have some lossless scans I can try it out on

Everything on the Internet Archive is lossless. I only do corrections on restored filmstrips and I only restore when the soundtrack is available. I do it across a comp of frames in the video editor. If you use Final Cut Pro I can share libraries when I’m working on an Eastmancolor one.
