Let's normalize talking to our friends and working our issues out in private before we spur needless infighting and ostracization in our fringe communities.

PREACH!

God, IF ONLY. I agree with you 200%

This is barely related but I wanted to bring this up because I feel like I'm going crazy I keep seeing this thing happen where someone does something horrific and unforgivable, they get called out for it, then the person who called them out just... gets all buddy-buddy with them and covers it up.

It's like the reverse of what was mentioned Someone does something so horrible (Such as bigotry, doxxing, abuse, etc.), and then those who spoke up seem to just have a switch flipped and they go back on everything they brought to light. I keep seeing it happen in this one situation, I feel insane.

Is it a person you know, is someone actively being harmed or manipulated in a real, evidence-based way, or are you just "concerned for members of your community"? If it's the first, you can only ask the person who is forgiving. Anything else is speculation. If it's the second you have to move on.

Basically, if this is something you can effectively change in your own interpersonal circle, do it. Act on actionable matters. If you can't act on it, you need to drop it. Volunteer at RAINN or something.

And on the flip side, if someone was all chummy with you and then blocks you the second you catch flack, they're probably more concerned with appearances than friendships. No real loss.

You're allowed to feel hurt and betrayed. They hurt you and betrayed your trust. Fuck em. Just focus on the people that like you for you

I feel this one in my soul 🙃

I feel like a TON of people just jump to conclusions nowadays & are sadly rewarded with validation. It's not worth destroying someone's life & social standing over something you could easily just solve by literally dming them.

Agreed! And not normalizing yelling into the void that is social media about the end of times.

Void yelling is a tough bad habit to break. I had to do it.

Yeahhhhh I was reading a few studies about how venting actually makes you feel more defeated. Hard habit to break for sure

Wait, really? Do you have any links?

I got into a bad cycle of feeling like a bother to everyone and void posting hoping someone would interact. It just left me more isolated and worse off at socializing. Now I try to talk directly to people who've shown they care about me

Agreed. But normalization will require being willing to have that convo from both sides of a confrontation, on the sending and receiving ends. If we screw up, we need to be willing to apologize, if we get crossed, we need to be willing to talk. It's going to require growth and learning for all of us

I feel that 'working out issues' has been seriously devalued in the face of people flipping out when approached with concerns.

💯💯💯 Literally going to every furry convention that will host us with a table full of zines on exactly this kind of stuff. 😺📕📗📘📙
