I really don't understand why so many people are seduced by Substack. It's a blog + email list. You can just host WP on your own domain and get a Mailchimp account for roughly the same $$ and not have to put money into these aHoles' pockets Bring back RSS readers

The thing you just described has at least four steps. That's a significant barrier to entry compared to "sign up for a Substack". Never underestimate the power of laziness+network effects.
