Much like progressive suburban politics need to take down car dealerships, who have a similar stranglehold on local government. Those dealerships bring in both property taxes and high levels of sales taxes (a huge boon for local govt), and channel their massive profits back into local GOP campaigns.
Sarah TaberBut you can see why. Those big families? Usually have farms. That makes them farmers. And you can't say bad things about farmers! That's why rural outreach sucks. It's not because "Dems aren't trying." It's bc the problem in rural politics is a 3rd rail that *nobody*- in any party- will touch.
