2026 Packers Training Camp Day 2 NotesThe second practice of Packers training camp felt noticeably different from Day 1.
Matt LaFleur's offense leaned heavily into the passing game during team periods, giving both Jordan Love and the defense plenty of chances to make plays. While there were explosive moments on offense, Green Bay's defense consistently answered with pressure and some decent coverage.
Here are some takeaways from Thursday's practice.
Jonathan Baldwin Makes His Case
If you're looking for an under-the-radar name to watch, look no further than Jonathan Baldwin.
Baldwin spent last season on the practice squad as a safety but seems to be transitioning to more of a slot defender. Today he stepped in front of a Tyrod Taylor throw for an interception of a pass intended for Isaiah Neyor. (Neyor wasn't even looking for the pass so there may have been some miscomunication)
Matthew Golden Keeps Showing Why the Packers Drafted Him
Matthew Golden had an impressive day.
He beat Keisean Nixon on a deep out route, hauling in a laser from Love along the right sideline, then later got behind the defense for a big completion from Jordan Love with Carrington Valentine trailing in coverage.
Golden continues to flash the speed and route-running ability that got everyone excited last summer. Here's hoping we don't have to wait until the playoffs for the Packers to feature him a bit.
Christian Watson got in on the act with a handful of receptions of his own, including an over route where he simply ran away from Valentine. Watson nearly added another explosive play, getting well behind Benjamin St-Juste on a deep ball, but Love's throw sailed just beyond his reach.
Defense Brings the Heat
The Packers' defense generated pressure throughout practice.
On one team snap, Zaire Franklin shot through the A-gap immediately. Love calmly recognized the blitz and hit Skyy Moore on the hot read, but it set the tone for an aggressive afternoon.
Edgerrin Cooper later beat Darian Kinnard cleanly for what would have been a sack. Love kept the play alive for practice purposes and found Moore underneath, only for Javon Bullard to punch the ball loose.
Cooper appeared to have dropped out at some point though I did not see why. He did not participate in team periods for the remainder of practice, something worth monitoring.
Elsewhere, Dani Dennis-Sutton continued to show encouraging pass-rush flashes with a strong inside move that helped force an incompletion intended for Jayden Reed.
Keisean Nixon blanketed Reed on one incompletion, Xavier McKinney made a spectacular diving pass breakup on a deep crossing route intended for a tight end, and Lukas Van Ness even held his own matching Josh Jacobs on a checkdown leak into the flat.
Nice Moments for the Offense
Despite the defense's success, the offense still had its share of highlights.
Savion Williams made a nice catch, adjusting to a throw behind him from Tyrod Taylor and securing it through traffic on an in-breaking route.
Taylor also delivered a strike over the middle to J. Michael Sturdivant, who couldn't finish the catch and looked at his hands in frustration after the drop.
Special Teams and Attendance
Rookie kicker Trey Smack connected on three field goals from 25 yards.
The Packers also had two new players held out of practice:
* G Aaron Banks (knee): The expectation is this is workload management rather than a new injury.
* WR Brenden Rice (hamstring): Rice was placed on the Non Football Injury list prior to today's practice and did not participate.
