My tinfoil theory is that Alastor is so secretly in love with Vox even HE doesn't know he's in love with him, he just knows that he was content/happy but then Vox's proposal (misunderstood&misinterpreted by Alastor because Rosie Deal Trauma + avoidant attachment) was a betrayal he could not tolerate
