I’ve been seriously fascinated by this for decades now. Every time McFarlane talks about what he wants from a new Spawn movie, it sounds nothing like what Spawn comics have been for 30 years. He’s been trying to express this idea since the 90s and I genuinely wish I could understand it.

And it's not like he's not involved with the comics anymore. If this was what he wanted from a spawn story he could do it at any time in one of the many, many spawn series

I feel like the through line is that he wants the Spawn movie to be like movies that are currently making lots of money.
