If you accept the 'no gods' interpretation of the movie that Wilson explicitly embraces elsewhere, Zendaya is playing Odysseus's guilty conscience tormenting him hallucinations of the innocent priestess he indirectly killed, that is not by any stretch a 'black best friend'!
