For a long time, UK tech policy has been burdened by the desire to be best in the world at something (anything) rather than delivering more of what we're already good at. As such, it's tended to be flimsy - good for announcements, bad for delivery, because typically there is no plan for delivery

I’ve just been rolling my eyes at a Daniel Susskind piece, also in the FT, where he’s being a massive cry-baby because Burnham’s speech didn’t mention AI… like, dude, maybe the one thing you’re geared up to drone about is only a means (among many) and not the end.
