I wouldn't be surprised. It felt like they were cramming in as much as they could without affecting the pacing. Something a book probably doesn't worry as much about.
oh other difference it takes much more time for grace to actually discover he's in space and in another solar system, stuff a movie has to speedrun for the sake of time. i find it's more effective in written form tbh
main differences that come to mind is that the book takes more time to focus on the speculative biology (knowing a reader has much more patience than a viewer) and stratt is characterised a whole lot better. highly recommend!
