Part of Ottawa flooded a couple of weeks ago, and the people who live there have been offered assistance and they aren’t a First Nation.

As would happen in any Canadian community, yes. Special status doesn't really apply; Ottawa is supposed to help any Canadian in this situation. ✌🏼

From what I could gather from the article, the community will receive help like any other Canadian town, but the Minister of Indigenous Affairs doesn't recognize the 'entire' community as Indigenous, I believe. I hope that this situation is dealt with quickly and fairly for ALL concerned. 🙏🏼💞

They're Canadians, so they must receive help regardless of 'status.' Full stop. This is ridiculous.

No need to call them a "small" community. They are a community deserving of aid and as all first nations communities are sized proportional to how the Canadian settler colonial project allows them, we should avoid that language if trying to help them.
