After the 2024 storms caused week-long blackouts across Northern Tasmania, the obvious response would have been to invest heavily into renovating and storm-proofing the local power grid. Instead, we got government ads about how preparing for blackouts is an important personal responsibility.

I think one of the sad things about the current data center story cycle is the electric companies have effectively used "data center demand" to obscure that our main grid/supply/safety problems come from them letting the grid decay over the last two decades in unconscionable ways.
