It's emotionally taxing to see an industry you love and have spent twenty years dedicating a career to implode.

not to self promote but yeah that's what I was writing about here

Opinion: Everything hurts and no one knows when the pain will endAs mass layoffs continue in the game industry, developers must reckon with how to handle the uncertainty and pain of the moment.www.gamedeveloper.com

I wonder how it compares to the first big crash. This is probably worse given how much bigger we were, but I wonder if a slower fall is better than a sudden crash

To see from this side is also very disheartening. It was supposed to be an escape. A hobby. A joy.

I spent my whole childhood idolizing the industry, and trying desperately to getting into it. Never did I imagine that once I was in, it would turn into this.

As a person who went to law school to try to make the world a better place, boy do I relate.

It makes me sad I desperately wanted to get into the industry as a data analyst and now doing so is basically impossible or would put my family livelihood in jeopardy.

It definitely does not feel good

It is just a hobby, but it is a hobby that I have loved my entire life. Regardless of what happens with gaming I will live, but it sucks seeing the direction that gaming has gone in the past decade and continues to go.

I want just talking to a guy at the pool who I found out works at Anthropic and he started out his software engineering career trying to get into video games. he was very thankful he doesn't work in the industry killing dreams, but very happy with successfully pivoting to killing the earth instead🫠

Time for a new competitor to enter the ring. Or an old one!

I'm tired of everything being more expensive and worse. I wonder at what point do i just have to stop caring.

It's truly continuous bad news. It makes it difficult to be excited. To think how much click-bait reactions and hand-wringing there was over the years and now things are actually getting hopeless.

Ideally like a phoenix we can rise again when this rot inevitably collapses the building.

It’s brutal.

I feel you. This is tough to watch.

and it's over the most nothing thing ever. Just ruining lives over something the C suite already has an abundance of. Money. It's so incredibly short sighted.

Truth.

I graduated college in December of 2023 wanting to jump right into the games industry. Really been having my Oppenheimer moment over the past 2.5 years seeing all this unfold.

April 2024 for me, and January of 2024 had reps from ubisoft, blizzard, and epic spinning us up with hype and hope that something would be lined up for us once we graduated.
