No - I decided that doing all the tie ins yourself rules it out (same kind of deal with HoXPoX) - with 7S there was the extra consideration that it would be my #1 and I liked not knowing what that was!

Love this reason! I’m currently doing a big countdown of the 76 best songs of 1976, and I also like not really knowing what I’ll ultimately choose number one. (I think there are four major contenders.)

I mean, Ellis wrote the Excalibur tie-in and Waid co-wrote the Alpha issue, I think? Lobdell and Harras are the heart and soul of it (really clear if you read the oral history, I think, though Nicieza obviously significantly involved as well) www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/x-...

Yeah Waid is involved, Hama writes Weapon X, Loeb does X-Man, Nicieza does a lot, the hands on the tiller are Lobdell and Harras tho

I’m happy I read this (and happy you shared it), but I gotta say, this was a badly written and edited piece. It’s so brief and incomplete, only talks to two of the eight writers on the project (and only three of the 15 artists), and has some *glaring* factual inaccuracies.

What are the glaring inaccuracies? I'm not sure how many participants one might expect to secure for an online article on a deadline 25 years later, though.

When it comes to an oral history, you have to start it earlier or you won’t get the participants. It’s a bad lack of planning. And if you can’t get enough participants, you shouldn’t do it. (I’m working on a few different oral histories, so I have strong opinions on them.) 1/

As to the inaccuracies, Howard Mackie saying he was tasked with mediating things between Claremont and Lobdell is wildly, demonstrably, probably false. Claremont was fired from the X-Men and replaced by John Byrne. And only several months later when Byrne quit did Lobdell get his first crack. 2/

Lobdell and Harras have both told the story on numerous occasions—when Byrne suddenly quit and Harras needed a replacement scripter ASAP, he looked out his door and saw Lobdell walking by his office, and asked if he wanted to script an X-Men issue. This was months after Claremont was fired. 3/

So it is literally impossible that Claremont and Lobdell were ever in an X-book meeting at the same time, unless Lobdell was only there to grab someone’s coffee. Now, I don’t doubt Mackie said this! I’m sure the quote is accurate. Because memories are weird. 4/

Yeah, Mackie must be conflating some things there, Claremont was long gone by the time Age of Apocalypse was in the air.

One of the interesting things about this for me is that the "good at comics" and "good at events" axes correlate but not totally - Shooter and Lobdell are writers for whom big events bring out their best, whereas there are lots of people whose event(s) are very low down the list of their good stuff
