I remember doing a crit essay where I drew some (completely original, non-referential) panels and the publisher asked me to cite them. I was like, I drew them? Am I supposed to cite myself? cite this essay like an ouroboros? They cut the art (along with other stuff) without telling me.
Keezy Young🌼ultimately the fallout of all this is that cartoonists who aren't necessarily trained in academic citation, history and historiography, and don't have a background in that, will be terrified to draw anything nonfiction. and that's not on the academics who feel slighted. that's on comic publishers
