When I was ten, (1987) while most of the movies I loved were within the last ten years, I adored The Court Jester and Lady and the Tramp. Have been showing “old” movies to 23 year old Stepkid recently. Their favorites were SNEAKERS, HEATHERS, DONNIE DARKO, and KUNG FU HUSTLE.

I would venture to guess that exposing children only to movies created in the most recent decade is less common than the alternative, and only something that came out of the streaming age. The new releases were always more expensive at Blockbuster, so we would always get something older as well.

I distinctly remember Blockbuster and other rental stores encouraging this with deals that let you get a new release and a few 'weeklys' for one flat price.
