Knopfler has always been good like that - when Weird Al called to do a parody of "Money for Nothing," he said yes on one condition: I get to do the lead guitar part. Weird Al, obviously, agreed.

Funnily, Weird Al's guitarist's version sounded more like the original, because Knopfler's take on it had evolved over time. Gu Fletcher, Dire Straits' keyboardist, also played synthesizer on the song. I guess that's what you can do if everyone in the business likes you.

Everyone except David Knopfler, perhaps. Saw him live once after their rift: very bitter man.

Thank you. I'm discombobulated after speaking at city council this morning. But my efforts were successful. It's still nerveracking. Proud of the guy who spoke out against Flock. I need to summon my courage more often.
