A Hummingbird Hawk-Moth just flew in and needed rescuing. Fast wing beats so whilst still took a few photos before a return to the garden. This species may not be very rare but never had one here before. Maybe more evidence of climate change? @savebutterflies.bsky.social #nature #wildlife

We had two here the other evening Peter, enjoying the agapanthus and one this evening. Being that bit further south than you it’s not the first time we’ve seen them, but I don’t think we’ve ever had two at the same time.

I'm sure they've been around though I can't say I noticed which would be odd given the noise of the wing beats. Certainty never had one indoors before.

Yes, quite worried as it hovered around the kitchen as we tried to 'capture' it with a glass bowl. Fortunately it was fine and was able to take it into the garden for release. A really nice moth. Quite large and chunky.

Well done! I haven't checked but they can't be that much smaller than an actual humming bird.

They're smaller, yes, but the flight pattern is very similar as they both hover whilst feeding.
