Wong Kim Ark was born in San Francisco, the son of Chinese citizens. In 1895, he tried returning home from a trip to China but was denied re-entry. Officials said he wasn't a citizen and couldn't be one because he was Chinese. Wong took his case to the Supreme Court and made history.
