To which the next question should be: "how many Patriot and THAAD interceptors did we have before the conflict?" ~2330 Patriot interceptors ~534 THAAD interceptors (of which 452 were operational) Per CSIS numbers.

Angry

If those are accurate numbers… Holy shit. That’s bad.

Well, maybe one just shouldn't start a war against an adversary who has relevant numbers of ballistic missiles AND thousands of long range drones, especially if one doesn't have the capabilities to intercept at least those drones with cheaper means than high-end air defense missiles?

Then, how long will it take to replenish the stockpiles. And what is the rate of usage compared to the rate of manufacturing.

So we have burned through half of our THAAD interceptors and 2/3 of our Patriot missiles in five months? This sounds like something someone who keeps going bankrupt would do.

We are put in much weakened state due to Trumps war of Whimsy Hopefully we’ll get to sort of accord before out piles run out

That’s the price you pay for completely obliterating Iran’s military!

How long does it take to make them?

FY 2027 has "quadruple" the THAAD interceptors in the budget for Lockheed Martin, which would turn out 400 interceptors instead of just 96. Patriots were getting replaced at a rate of 500-600 a year, but the numbers should greatly increase now with a $58B order to Lockheed Martin. Gonna take time.

Thank you!!

JFC, looks very bad. Is this just another planned weakening of the US, or utter stupidity? So hard to know anymore.

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" ^ Hanlon's Razor Although as a counterpoint "... Third time is enemy action" So idk either

How's the infamous Colby "pivot to Asia" looking?

I wonder if iran can outperform USA on ensambling its missiles and drones faster than USA its interceptors

So, good time for Canada to invade then

Taiwan is there for the taking. Russian it’s probably a good time to invade Poland.

INDOPACOM crying in the corner while CENTCOM eats it's dinner. As usual. Pivot to Asia aaaaaaany minute now I'm sure Also a really dark outlook for Ukraine to get more patriot missiles...

P

I can't see Xi NOT considering moving on Taiwan this year with those stockpiles as low as they will ever get again.

Modern weapons have a looooooooong lead time, and a huge cost. A modern fighter jet takes at least 18 months to build. One cruise missile costs US$1 Million to build. So you have to have a lot of money and a lot of time.

Granted these weapons are more capable than their ancestors, so unlike WWI, one doesn't need to make billions of artillery shells. But these days you fight a war with what you have an hope it doesn't go too long!

Meanwhile, MAGA- "Lol, cry your librul tears, Trump gonna done fix it!"

DoW still has AI tokens and testosterone; and the new tech bros probably think they can 3D print the missiles.

Should we be worried that the stockpile was only 2,330 to begin with? I was expecting by more like 30-40 thousand at least?

“~534 THAAD interceptors (of which 452 were operational)” 534-452=82 So 82 in the bone yard for parts? Or trainers for missile mechanic school? Or just too old to pop?

What could Iran’s strategy be??

And Iran will keep tossing drones at them until Donnie has none left

There is no way Iran will agree to a peace deal unless they get everything they ask and more. They are happily draining US ammunition, knowing the Trump admin is too stupid to handle this war. A drunk abuser leading the military. A president who rapes children calling the shots. No chance.

I also want to know how many of the remaining interceptors have already been moved to the middle east and what is left in the PACOM theater.

That's crazy! For comparison, HAF has maybe about 250 Patriot interceptors and around 100 S300 interceptors. And the US economy is about 100 times the size of Greece's.

That's about $7 billion or more in defensive missiles alone, to which the natural next question is "what was the cost of the Iranian munitions that were intercepted (or attempted)?"

Congrats to General Caine.

J... F... C... on a cracker that's most likely a Triscuit. ~400/yr. was Zelenskyy's number of Patriots iirc, and they have the GALL to try to blame this shortage on them... 😡😶‍🌫️ Real daddy's a CSM, so he got your "pick me" ass on a recruiting poster, clown show energy over at DoD.

And he’s been asking for years for the same licensing rights for Ukraine to build their own that Japan already has, but we won’t let them do it…

I have to imagine this has an impact on US planning/response to a Chinese invasion of Taiwan...

That, and the army just placed an order for PAC-2 missiles for the first time in 30 years. Guessing they pushed the PAC-2s because they could be produced quicker.

Not for Raytheon

Blowing through 1500 Patriots???

So, in an alliance when you are the muscle and they are the money, is it good when the muscle runs out of weapons and can’t hold up their side of the bargain? Do allies generally like, tolerate that?

when you have a grossly unqualified Secretary of Defense/War & Joint Chiefs of Staff Caine is the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs who never served at the rank of four-star general or four-star admiral before assuming the position and the first to have been retired at the time of confirmation.

Given the insane amount of $ we spend on defense it as an insane scandal that critical munitions like these could be depleted so quickly. Trump is a corrupt fucker and needs to be held accountable to the fullest extent of law for all his crimes, but defense industry corruption needs 2 b addressed 2

Sure we lost 1,400 Patriots and 200 THAADs, but it was totally worth it to also lose the strait of hormuz!

Don’t short sell us, we also lost the Red Sea (and a few F/A-18’s)
