Hey it's not like the cancer rates aren't going up already in the US, eh?

But but but windmills ...

The goal of anti-LNT/ALARA zealots (and their hormesis spawn) is to emit more radioactivity into the environment and to expose more people to more radioactivity for a longer time—full stop. ☢️ #Wackos 🧵

DrCrlsnPEJD

For those in the back. "The NRC evaluates compliance with [ALARA] on the basis of a licensee’s capability to track and, if necessary, reduce exposures, rather than on whether exposures and doses represent an absolute minimum or whether the licensee used all possible methods to reduce exposures."

Silkwood showers for everyone.

Guess he skipped class the day they taught about Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Chernobyl, or Three-Mile Island.

I'm afraid they are planning to use nuclear weapons on American citizens.

Well what do you expect from trump? He knows absolutely nothing about anything except that he wants/needs lots of ass kissing. The hell w/what happens to the world & radiation.

The Trump regime will not systematically kill the population; they will simply remove every Department, Agency, Regulation, Rule, Control, Organization & Service that has been put in place to keep them alive. Then they will tell you it's not their fault - 'nature's way'.

It’s almost as if electing him president again was an obviously terrible idea since in his first term he proved he didn’t care about anything other than his brand name, an obsession he’s carried with him for the entirety of his vile and very well-documented life.

Cancer is the second or third biggest cause of death and somehow this is what they want to do?

That is very scary

We are doomed Have an extra slice of cake before it’s too late

We are doomed

The link isn't loading on my end. What's the headline? (Helps to know what we're reacting to.)

This is quite a bucket list he has for our destruction. He’s not quitting anytime soon. He’s getting even!

They’re killing us softly. Why?

Question is, what isn’t…

Nothing seems good under their plans.

WTF!!

Because he or any of his billionaire friends don't live in any of the locations that would adopt this

They are openly and brazenly pulling no punches. They WANT us DEAD.

Republicans have their murder suits on.

Of course it's Trump

#GOPDeathCult Irrefutable anti-science #kakistocracy

Seems bad because it is.

Radiation, diarrhea, war, and corruption-the Trump presidency in a nutshell.

As someone who has worked in the business: ALARA is fundamental to radiation safety. Radiation is not like other workplace exposure hazards. There is no safe limit to radiation exposure.

Ответ для Liquid Jade

Yup did a year or so in X-ray tech school before covid. Removing this rule would absolutely result in increased cancer rates.

Ответ для KingScoville

The regulatory limits for workers and the public are set so that the statical difference in cancer rates between worker exposure and nonworker exposure is not significant. However, the reason for ALARA is so workers aren’t ‘dosing out’ every quarter.

Ответ для Liquid Jade

People in jobs where they wear TLDs aren’t going to know if they were overexposed until after the quarter is over.

Ответ для Liquid Jade

You allow people into higher doserate areas with only TLDs and no EPDs?

Ответ для Cuthbert Shaw

When I went to uranium mills and mines, I only wore a TLD. When I did rad waste disposal, I wore a TLD & a dosemeter while I was in the restricted areas. Outside the restricted area, it was TLD only.

Ответ для Liquid Jade

The company set their internal daily limit below the regulatory limit as part of their ALARA strategy.

They just want money. Everyone else can die.

Why are they trying to kill us?

Oh no, I'm truly convinced they want us all dead.

That could be the title of the regime: this seems bad.

Turns out it’s actually not bad! Hard to believe with this administration but this one probably makes sense

Ответ для brocktunefan

You get to try it out, then report back how that worked out for you.

Ответ для The Landlady of Your Dreams

I already did! It worked fine!

Ответ для brocktunefan

Yes it does.

Good thing for me that a) the industry takes longer than four years to make sweeping changes to safety and b) my workplace is heavily unionized and if we nixed ALARA people *would not* come to work!

Wonder if Tyler Folse is gonna weigh in on this one

This is to facilitate oligarchs building "small scale" nuclear power stations. Not following the original safety rules cuts billions off their costs. Also prevents a bunch of NRC safety inspectors "sniffing around".

Ответ для Phil Price

Gosh, cost-cutting nuclear power stations, what a five-part prestige HBO miniseries of an idea.

Ответ для hi!
Ответ для Phil Price

One wonders how many of those nuclear power plants will be built near the oligarchs residences.

This IS bad. The industry has been trying to ditch ALARA for years because it requires them to not be reckless.

I agree. This definitely doesn’t sound smart. As a former instructor of radiation safety at Los Alamos I have to wonder: What could possibly be the thinking of anyone who advocates for eliminating ALARA?

Ответ для panna302

Nihilist operating with the knowledge he won’t be around for the consequences in 10 years or so. I guess his enablers are just hoping the country forgets. A safe bet, given the 2024 election

WTF when will his destruction be enough to have him stopped!!!

The only explanation is Trump works for Putin.

It is

I worked for a company in the nuclear industry for 20 years and I can attest that this IS bad. VERY BAD.

It's as if he might die soon and doesn't give a shit and wants to do as much damage as possible before he does.🤔

What could go wrong?

Trump knows his life is short, he wants to take the United States down with him.

How much more proof do we need to prove this guy hates our guts?

S

All you need to know is that Trump lies and anything he does is bad/evil/wrong and unbelievably stupid.

Everything they do is bad🤬

Why not? Our food, water & air isn’t safe anymore. Let’s add frying our bodies to the list too.

It is really bad.

Alara's foundation is the linear no threshold model which suffers from a significant lack of data around low doses. I'm not sure scrapping it without an alternative scheme is appropriate but the current scheme definitely deserves objective scrutiny.

"These data points are all of very high radiation exposures." Fact check: FalseAF "The mean dose in the exposed group in the LSS [Life Span Study] cohort is only 200mSv, with >50% of the exposed individuals in the cohort (26,300 individuals) having doses <50 mSv." www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.... #LNT

So now they want to be able to kill us with radiation, so if the measles doesn’t get ya the radiation will…………..….do ya believe this stuff they are doing…………

He already glows in the dark…

Yes! It is bad

Remember when Tom Barak got caught trying to give the Saudis nuclear tech on behalf of Trump and his cronies in the first term so he could profit off of it? And how Trump now invested in a nuclear company and is now doing this openly himself...?

Everything this POS does is bad!!

Foolish man!

MAGA will be taking Radium supplements again before MAHA is through with them.

right-on

DEMOCRATS!! Make these your 3 top goals and talking points. 1. Scale back presidential immunity and power. 2. Reduce the amount of money allowed in politics. 3. Install a MEDICARE FOR ALL health care program. Your opposition lacks credibility in all three!

<whispering> Um... yikes? Just more awful shit to add to our already really awful nightmares.

I'm just waiting for the headline that says the Bubonic Plague is making a comeback.

Ответ для Doc000

RFKJr would love that.

As a retired radiation therapy nurse, I have first hand knowledge of how current regulations protect us. For 20 years, my radiation exposure was kept extremely low, despite being exposed to radiation daily. A co worker, who had over 50 years of experience had far higher exposure because he was 1/2

Ответ для Sewmichelleu

Involved back when we used cobalt, and had much less regulations regarding worker safety. Another bad idea from this unqualified administration! 2/2

Ответ для Sewmichelleu

It IS bad!

It's worse than bad

We're fucked

This is tough because ALARA has little scientific basis but is extremely useful as a guideline. The federal limits for radiation exposure aren't changing, but the policies are; it's very difficult to know if it'll have any measurable effect on cancer rates.

Ответ для Derek Katz

For reference, US federal guidelines allow 5 rem (.05 sievert [Sv]) per year total dose. Deterministic/direct effects are essentially unheard of below 200 rem (2 Sv). The relationship between low radiation doses and cancer rates is almost impossible to determine.

Ответ для Derek Katz

The data we do have seem to indicate that low dose beta/gamma (such as that experienced by sailors on nuclear ships or workers in nuclear shipyards) is much less risky than e.g. UV from the sun and radon from the home.

Ответ для Derek Katz

Of course, the line blurs if you start to ask whether a 40-rem lifetime dose from a 40 year career has a measurably higher cancer risk than a 10-rem dose over the same period. Neither person is glowing green or vomiting up their stomach lining; their offspring is almost certainly perfectly healthy.

Ответ для Derek Katz

But if one of them gets cancer and the other doesn't, was it the radiation? Or did one live in a home with a basement and the other didn't? Did one fly internationally and love the outdoors? Or maybe they were just unlucky genetically. It's impossible to say.

Ответ для Derek Katz

This whole topic is extremely contentious and not decided science. I would also add that much of the pushback come from industry that wants relaxed standards. Also, there is a significant amount of industry funded BS studies out there written purely for justification. That itself is a huge problem

As long as MAGA is will to be the first layer of insulation all will be well.

ive been thinking about that book lately: On The Beach by N. Shute

And that is exactly why trump and his stooges are allowing, even encouraging it to be done! putin wants trump to weaken the USA, so anything that may harm OUR Citizens, is right in line with his plan of action!

The Buffalo News

State and federal officials sought permission over the weekend to test about 730 additional properties for radioactive material, expanding their investigation of potentially contaminated land in northern Erie and western Niagara counties.

Happening in PA as we type.

Well if GOP want to reduce the surplus population- it’s great for the republicans. The R rubes love it & the billionaires will be HIding in their bullion dollar bunkers

#RepublicansWantToKillUsAll

Too much risk based decision making in the nuclear world for this administration. The EO says the new model replacing the NLT model will be science based but we all know that's bullshit.

Destroy and smirk, destroy and smirk. Oh, the power.

If he put in ChatGPT how to fuck up America, the AI think tank wouldn’t have listed all of this. Good GOD, when is enough enough?

Everything is bad right now hopefully he’ll be gone before the world is destroyed to pieces.

Make Ionizing Radiation Great Again!

Now we can all bask in the glow of Trump's idiocy and incompetence.

And to think all of this could have been avoided had Biden lowered the price of eggs.

We are in a new world order where citizens are just a source of labour or inconvenience!

I took a radiological monitoring certification course from FEMA back in the 1990s and the ALARA principle was like ... the core of the entire safety protocol ... I guess "gently set down, and walk away casually - no hurry bro!" is the rule to live by now. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

This administration also reduced tracing of cyclosporiasis. How did that work out?

What could possibly go wrong?

Need more info to understand this… is this the NRC reevaluating the need or is it 47administration interference with the regulations? 👀

Gee, what could possibly go wrong.

Double plus ungood.

The focus here is in nuclear power, but this actually also impacts coal plants, which often are very high in radioactive particulates.

If their ( the money hoarders ) goal is to kill us all so they can have the place to themselves they seem like they’re on the right track, no?
