There are multiple canon moments where characters learn why Jeritza destroyed Bartels, and they their best to absolve him. Yet, it never works. He doesnt regret what he did, but if every animal he meets tells him he's a bad person, surely it must be so. tl;dr a friendly cat would fix him I know it
