Anniversary of the Third Battle of Ypres, 2 Aug 1917, latterly known as Passchendaele. It left half a million men dead or injured on both sides. Total deaths in WW1 were 18 million. In WW2 over 60 million were killed, mostly civilians. Two catastrophic, devastating wars, both began in Europe.
