I couldn’t agree more. This movie gives a clear description of how it was planned with the most evil intent behind it. It is hard to comprehend how anyone could have so much evil in them.

Now it makes me think of Israel government planning to steal Palestine and sterminate all inhabitants who refuse to leave their homeland.

There is a German TV movie from 1984 that is even better.

Very underrated.

The German version was more terrifying, especially the scenes showing a German officer playing with his dog. We later learned he used that dog to track down hiding Jews.

There was only one surviving transcript and the screen play for this movie was made from that. The Wannsee Conference it was called decided the fate of the Jews over lavish tables of the best foods available.

In a similar vein zone of interest is horrific but like skinamarink,.. the horror is mote than implied but just out of or fully in earshot or glimpsed obliquely

I didn't mind the movie, at all, and I get the point that both you and the filmmakers were going for. But in the end, the problem (at least for me) with a film expressing the banality of evil is that it is banal.

its an interesting story. what it didnt show was all the conversations and meetings and events that lead up to this conference. think it was a long evolution of self reinforcing antisemitism. which shows how important things like racism are worth tackling up front.

Banality is so the right word, the unspeakable evils, the destruction of life, the cruelty and evil, talked about round a table like they were organising a works outing. Great movie about the planning stages of the Holocaust.

The feature that demonstrates the banality of evil is "The Zone of Interest".

The Germans drew from past examples: British military hierarchies held meetings in 1900 at HQs in South Africa to discuss concentration camps & civilian eradication. Poor sanitation, meager food rations & disease resulted in the deaths of over 26,000 Boer women & children & 20,000 black Africans.

Couldn't agree more, it's evil as bureaucracy and paperwork (or getting rid of paperwork). Even the 'good guys' in this are complaining more on the side of practicality and policy, rather than morality.

Fantastic film. Incredible cast. Intense and troubling. Though I knew the holocaust had been a planned thing, I knew it was not some organic thing that just developed, it never dawned on me how simply it had been written over drinks and lunch. Terrifying.

Great cast depicting a horrifying and true event. May have been mentioned, but the second season of Andor has an episode that seems directly inspired by this movie.

In a similar vein, the way Downfall (2004 German film) portrayed the final days of the Nazi regime was likewise chilling. Not so much the banality, but the terrifying, abject detachment from reality that infected the entire regime. The echoes I see of it now among the Trump regime frightens me.
