Was listening to the @originstorypodcast.bsky.social podcast on Evangelicals over the weekend and just saw this 😅🤦‍♂️

Adam Kinzinger

My family has a left-wing evangelical history. My grandfather was a Free Methodist lay preacher and medical missionary in India from 1903 to 1913 and, later, a Labour councillor and mayor. In Canada, one of my first MPs was Tommy Douglas, a founder of the NDP and father of universal healthcare.

Tommy Douglas was also an ordained Baptist minister.

Wow you got an interesting background Tim is it cool we talk more about you good looking

Interesting comic connection. Jack Kirby based his New God character Glorious Godfrey on Billy Graham. Later adaptations would make him a spoof on various media pundits.

Origin Story making another absolute banger of a podcast? So it goes. Hope the hate from Rowling stans has subsided somewhat. You guys rock.

Politics consumed this movement from the inside out, leaving it so barren and spritually empty that it now supports a swearing, materialist, serial fornicator who obsesses over his own daughter. The death of any principle the evangelicals once claimed to hold.

Superb 2 parter, weirdly timely as I've only just watched the testament of Anne Lee (i found the musical element excruciating) it was well acted though, I'm re- reading Preacher and you dont get a more graphic algory of southern evangelicalism - it feels a lot less easy reading in 2026 than in 2000.

I am weirdly into southern gothic genre and ive read a couple of William Faulkners that really capture the rise of evangelicalism/religion and violence in the south in the 30s. A good man is hard to find is a collection of dark stories on religious fundamentalism and dometic violence in 1955.

Grifters, hypocrites and unsurprisingly, sexual predators. No wonder they love Trump.

I've been going to church with my partner since 2020 and I've been getting to know the weird differences between sects and whoaboi does this chime.

Free Presbyterians make these guys look sensible. Lol.
