I just received word from my stepdad that my mother will soon be passing away after spending the past several days in the hospital. She has suffered for nearly 17 years from a stomach surgery gone horribly wrong that ultimately lefter her dependent on nutrient infusions.

(Continuing again) She caught severe pneumonia just as it seemed she was going to recover from the IV port infection. The pneumonia was so bad that she had to be shipped to another hospital. There, the doctors put her on oxygen, but also discovered congestive heart failure.

(Continuing) Just before Christmas, the IV port for her infusions became infected. She waited as long as she could before going to the hospital, both due to not wanting to spend the holidays there and not wanting to get a secondary infection. That secondary infection happened.
