Cross species spill overs of viruses happen all the time , every day , most of them peter out and go nowhere , the odd one ( Aids, 1918 flu, Sars1 and 2) establishes in the human population. This is always the most likely explanation for a “ new” virus ( they aren’t new, just new to us)
