Sometimes my clients are shocked to find out I went to college, that I've had my work in The New Yorker, that i know who Marc Chagall was. They think these things are a talisman against ever having to clean a toilet yourself.
as a habitual slob myself i took great pride in learning how to turn a 5.5 bath mansion hotel-clean in 2 hours, letting go of any intimidation i feel about cleaning my own space.
But best of all is when i get to keep someone else out of squalor: an overworked wife with a disabled spouse and 5 kids; an elderly person living alone, an adult caregiver to a parent, a person with extreme executive dysfunction. This is the most meaningful work I can do.
so, thank you for writing so eloquently about my job, and i hope LW finds the words to clean the shame from their family's hearts---you've certainly put a few essential tools in their bucket.
