It seems obvious that the grim reaper has done his part, or at least the meeting has been scheduled. One only needs to make it public for the rest to happen on its own.
I don't see any reason to believe that he is dead. It benefits no one to cover it up and would require a lot of normal people to break the law by not issuing a death certificate.
