The UK is finally making chickenpox vaccination available to children. The JCVI recommended this back in November 2023. In the meantime, there's been a two-tier system - richer families could pay approx £150 for the vaccine, while poorer kids got infected with a lifelong virus.

I still find it quite astounding that one of the old arguments against vaccinating children for chickenpox has been that their infections (potentially) help reduce shingles cases among adults. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...
