I think the trick is that "today's nuclear plants" aren't in the U.S.! Other than the Vogtle expansion a few years ago, I don't think a new civilian reactor has come online in my lifetime, and I am not young. But, yes, there is an alternate nuclear paradigm available, if the U.S. will use it.
