Inscription is certainly too clear to have lasted on sandstone for at least 1000 years. Also no evidence of the Norse reaching that far south. And as for Vikings, the NE tribes didn’t have enough treasure to tempt raiders to undertake the long sailing, and they were also quite defensive.
