Having several in rotation that I swap out seems to help, I think. That, and always choosing starter words with either three consonants/two vowels or three vowels/two consonants. Yesterday my starter was "arose," which I added to my rotation a while back after "arise" was used as an answer.

And having said that, I realize now that Wordle has reused an answer on at least one occasion, I could go back to some of my old starter words, too. I think I might have had my best results starting with "raise," "pouty," or "lousy." Recently I've also used "mousy," which hasn't been used AFAIK.

I think I choose bad vowels.

When I do Quordle and Octordle (neither of which has hard mode) I always make sure to use ALL the vowels in the first two lines - e.g., pouty + raise or lousy + abide. I can usually rule out a lot of words once I have the correct vowels. It's not foolproof, but it helps, at least in my experience.

There was a blurb (not long enough to be called an article) out recently from NYT saying they are now reusing the words.
