I worked a "Fans meet with Goodell" event in NOLA about 15 years ago, and a fan asked the question, ya know like the Packers. Goodell fumbled around "grandfathering" that model from deep in our past. I did not get the feeling there is any intention of letting that model get past the league again.

Democrats need to run on establishing a federal sports relocation tax. If a scumbag owner wants to relocate, charge them a 200% tax on the value of the franchise. Also pass laws preventing in stadium price gouging. These would all be incredibly popular policies.

You might be amused by the story of "MK Dons" and "AFC Wimbledon". Tells you how UK fans react if their team moves.

Outside the US franchise behaviour is considered grotesque. I don't even understand the concept of rooting for a team you have no emotional or communal connection to.

Yes! These cities should take legal action to prevent teams from using the cities name/likeness without a majority ownership stake.

Check out the GAA in Ireland. You play for your town/parish team and represent the county in which you were born for the All Ireland series. All amateur but by no means amateurish. Serious athletes at inter-county level. Not sure there's anything similarly structured in world sport.

No public funds should ever be used to pay for new pro sports venues. The leagues are rich enough to pay for them themselves. Public funds should support public venues like school and municipal athletic facilities, not the big leagues.

Or people should just start rejecting televised sports and play in the backyard like we did before cable. The food is better.

My lack of interest in pro sports directly correlates with the moving of sports franchises. Baltimore to Indianapolis was okay, but the beginning of the end. NBA, NBA, NHL...should all be as it was in 1980. Although I don't mind the Expos moving to DC.
