🧪🔭⭐ #starclusters #pleiades Gaia has revolutionized cluster-finding (see great work by @emily.space and many others). Our twist: combining Gaia with TESS rotations. TESS is ~ all-sky and gives rotation periods for millions of stars—a powerful way to identify coeval populations.

🧪🔭⭐ #starclusters #pleiades Stellar rotation encodes age. Younger stars spin fast; older stars spin slowly. Using TESS periods (video attached—gyrochronology 101!), we trimmed down the list of possible Pleiades relatives far more effectively than position/kinematics alone.

🧪🔭⭐ #starclusters #pleiades The traceback is fascinating: these groups were closest to the Pleiades ≈80 Myr ago. But the Pleiades age is ≈120 Myr. We don’t think the age is wrong—we think the STRUCTURE broke apart ~80 Myr ago, likely after interacting with another molecular cloud.

🧪🔭⭐ Early results suggest the Pleiades are not unique. There may be many such dissolved or dissolving large-scale complexes hiding in the Gaia+TESS era. We’re already working on the next targets—stay tuned.
